Gardai injured after Sligo ramming incident

Two gardaí were injured in Sligo after their patrol car was repeatedly rammed by a four-wheel drive vehicle this morning.

Two gardaí were injured in Sligo after their patrol car was repeatedly rammed by a four-wheel drive vehicle this morning.

A Garda spokeswoman said that when officers tried to pull the vehicle over at 4 a.m. the driver drove into their patrol car and hit it up to six times.

One of the gardaí who got out to try to talk to the driver was then allegedly struck. The incident occurred at Oakfield Road in Sligo town.

Both gardaí were treated for their injuries at Sligo General Hospital before being released.

The driver was arrested at 8 a.m. and is being questioned at Sligo Garda Station.
