Gardai foiled a robbery by four masked and armed men on the AIB branch at Sutton Cross, Howth, Co Dublin, at 2.30 p.m. yesterday.

At one stage, there were six Garda cars pursuing the raiders. About a quarter of a mile from the bank, the raiders' car was in collision with another vehicle. Nobody was hurt in the collision and the raiders abandoned their car, later found to be on the stolen list. Gardai arrested a man found in the garden of a nearby house and he is being detained at Howth station. Meanwhile, a Garda chase, assisted by a helicopter, took place in Co Limerick yesterday afternoon following a robbery at the Dublin Road Motors Company outside the city.

Three masked and armed men raided the premises but it is believed that only a small amount of money was taken.
