Gardai in Drogheda are following a definite line of inquiry following the alleged rape of a woman in the town early yesterday morning.

The woman, who is believed to be in her 20s, was allegedly attacked in a laneway off Lawrence Street in the town at around 6 a.m. as she was walking for a bus. She reported the matter to gardai in Drogheda a short time later.  She was taken to the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin for treatment and later made a statement.  The woman is not from the town.

It is understood that two individuals approached the woman but that one was involved in the alleged rape.

Gardai in Drogheda would like to hear from anyone who has further information on the alleged attack.
