Gardaí in Waterford are appealing for witnesses after an 81-year-old man was seriously injured when he was struck by a  4x4 vehicle in the city this afternoon.

The incident happened at about 2.30pm on the Cork Road. The man was taken by ambulance to Waterford Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

The road is closed to traffic and diversions are in place. Forensic collision investigators are at the scene.
