Gardaí in Louth are investigating a serious assault on Sunday morning which led to the death of a 25-year-old man.

Gardaí in Louth are investigating a serious assault on Sunday morning which led to the death of a 25-year-old man.

The incident occurred outside a premises in the Harbour Road area of Clogherhead between 1.15am and 2.00am.

A man (25) was seriously injured in the incident and was brought to Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2.30pm today.

The victim, who has not yet been named, is from a fishing family and has lived most of his life in nearby Fr Murray Park.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident or have any information about it to contact them at Clogherhead Garda station on 041-9822222
