Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the security alert at Dublin airport on Tuesday to come forward.

They are especially interested in talking to people who were in the arrivals hall at the time it was evacuated, around 1.30pm.

The large number of people who were waiting for flights at the time have been asked to contact gardaí at Dublin airport on 01-6664950.

During the incident, passengers and workers were evacuated from the terminal for two hours because of a bomb scare.

A man is alleged to have entered the airport terminal with a bag and indicated it contained a bomb.

The bag was retrieved and the man was later detained. Gardaí declared the airport to be safe after the bag was examined by army bomb experts.
