The badly-decomposed remains of a man found in Co Wicklow today has led to a full-scale investigation and detectives understood to be treating the death as suspicious.

The discovery was made by a man walking his dog in the Glen of the Downs. The body is believed to have been found in a stream running through a woods and is thought to have been there for some weeks.

The State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, concluded a post mortem this evening but the results will not be released until tomorrow, the Garda said.

The man has not been identified, a spoksewoman added.
