A garda was stabbed and taken to hospital following a drugs search in Athlone earlier this morning.
The garda received stab wounds to the upper arm and was taken to Mullingar Hospital. Later, the garda will be transferred to St James Hospital in Dublin for further treatment.
Two men were arrested during the planned search at a house in Grotto View, Athlone.
Both men are being detained at Athlone Garda station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
