An off duty garda received several stitches for a stab wound after being attacked by a youth with a carpet knife in south Dublin. The garda was leaving the leisure centre at Leopardstown racecourse on Tuesday evening when he spotted a youth interfering with a car.

After a short chase, the man turned on the garda and stabbed him in the arm. A youth was detained, but later released. A file on the incident has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
