Garda Ombudsman investigates fatal Kells crash

The Garda Ombudsman is investigating a fatal road crash involving a Garda car and a motorcyclist in Co Meath.

The Garda Ombudsman is investigating a fatal road crash involving a Garda car and a motorcyclist in Co Meath.

A 21-year-old man who was riding the motorbike was killed in the incident which happened at around 6pm yesterday.

The marked patrol car and the bike were believed to have been travelling in opposite directions on the N3 outside Kells at the time of the collision.

The motorcyclist was taken to Navan General Hospital, where he later died. Gardaí must, under law, refer such incidents involving officers from the force to the Garda Ombudsman.

An investigation team from the Garda Ombudsman travelled to Co Meath today to begin their inquiries. A spokesman for the Ombudsman's office has called on anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.
