A former garda who has admitted possessing child pornography is to spend four months in a sex offenders' institute, it emerged yesterday.

Conor Brough, who served more than 20 years with the force, had previously pleaded guilty to possessing 23 offensive images.

His sentencing was adjourned yesterday until September to allow him to complete a treatment programme at the Granada Institute for Sex Offenders, Dublin.

Dublin District Court was told he had been accepted by the institute and the case was adjourned pending a report on his progress.

Brough (43) from Raheny, Dublin, admitted downloading the images last October.

They were seized in July 2002 after his estranged wife reported him.
