Garda held over drug possession

A member of the Garda is being questioned about alleged possession of cocaine following his arrest in Dublin city centre.

A member of the Garda is being questioned about alleged possession of cocaine following his arrest in Dublin city centre.

The garda was arrested in the north inner city yesterday afternoon during a suspected attempt by him to buy cocaine from another man.

The suspected drug dealer was also arrested by gardaí as the pair were meeting on Ormond Quay. The Garda operation which led to the arrests was planned and involved a period of surveillance.

Both men were arrested under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.

The garda is being held at Kevin Street Garda station in the south inner city. He can be detained for up to one week without charge.

The other man is being held at Store Street Garda station.
