The Garda authorities are to open disciplinary proceedings against a trainee garda who, won a case against dismissal from the force after doing a Tom Jones impersonation in a pub, the High Court was told yesterday.

The Supreme Court ruled in February that Mr Gary Brian McAuley (27), of Kempton Way, Navan Road, Dublin, could remain in the Garda Siochana.

However, it ruled he was not entitled to an order prohibiting the Garda Commissioner from taking further disciplinary proceedings over the alleged incident.

Mr Aedan McGovern SC, for Mr McAuley, said yesterday that the issues had been largely resolved.

Mr Justice Barr adjourned the matter generally.
