Headquarters in Dublin has rejected a report that armed gardai are abandoning Border checkpoints at 7 p.m. daily because Garda management does not want to make overtime payments.

A Garda spokesman said armed gardai were still on Border duty and would remain so following a tightening of security measures after the loyalist paramilitaries' hoax bomb alert in Dublin last week.
