Galway woman dies in house fire

A 78 year old woman died in a fire at her home at Oranmore, Co Galway, yesterday afternoon. It was unclear if a cigarette or a coal from a nearby fireplace had caused the fire, a Galway Fire Brigade spokesman said.

Mrs Peggy Quinn, who lived next door to her son, Brian, at Middle Third on the outskirts of Oranmore, may have been overcome by fumes as she was confined to an armchair. She was badly burnt after her clothing caught fire.

A man was found dead in his bedroom when the fire service from Tipperary was called to a fire at a cottage at Attassel Abbey, Golden, Co Tipperary, on Wednesday. He was named as Mr Thomas Horan (47).
