Fruit distributor Fyffes warned the stock market today that higher-than-expected shipping costs would drag profits lower by as much as €9 million.

In a trading update issued this morning Fyffes said that recent increases in the cost of shipping fuel has been higher than anticipated by the group and is not being recovered in current selling prices.

"This situation is expected to persist in the medium term," the statement said.
