A13-year-old boy who drowned while playing in the river in Donegal on Monday has been buried today.

Brian McDaid drowned when he became trapped in a mud-bank in the river Foyle while playing with two friends.

The accident happened shortly before 6 pm on Monday and a search and rescue operation began involving the Irish Coastguard helicopter from Strandhill, Co. Sligo, a PSNI chopper from Northern Ireland and a Foyle search and rescue boat.

The body of the teenager, who was from Ardnameala, St Johnston, was recovered from the river just after 9pm on Tuesday.

The boy's funeral took place after requiem mass in St Baithin's Church, St Johnston this morning.
