STRASBOURG - French authorities are within their rights in banning a couple from naming their daughter after a heroine in one of their favourite novels, the European Court of Human Rights ruled yesterday. Mr Gerard Guillot and his wife wished to name their now 13 year old daughter Fleur de Marie, after a character in Mysteres de Paris by Eugene Sue.
