A French engineering company is creating 50 aerospace jobs in Belfast.

Assystem will specialise in aerospace design engineering at a new base in the Harbour Estate. The company has already taken on 30 staff and plans to recruit at least another 20 for its Old Channel Road location.

Invest NI has offered financial support of £250,000 towards Assystem's investment of just over £900,000.

Belfast was just one of a number of potential EU locations considered by the French company, which is seeking to expand its network of engineering offices.

The announcement came the day after Belfast aerospace company Shorts confirmed it was about to start making nearly 650 redundancies ordered by its Canadian owner Bombardier last October.
