Factory output in France rose more sharply than expected in November, data released today showed, in a positive sign for fourth quarter growth in the euro zone's second largest economy.

National statistics office INSEE said industry output rose 1.1 per cent on the month in November, beating a forecast 0.5 per cent increase from economists polled by Reuters.

Manufacturing output was up 1.6 per cent on the month, with car production jumping 8.5 per cent compared to October.

Production of IT, electronic and optical equipment also rose markedly, climbing 6.1 per cent in November compared to a month earlier.
