A Manchester-based wind orchestra will take to the bandstand today in St Stephen's Green, Dublin, as part of a series of free events to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the park's public opening.
The Office of Public Works has organised a programme of musical performances, children's fun days and talks on gardening and heritage to mark the anniversary of brewer Sir Arthur Guinness presenting the park to the community in July 1880.
The highlight of the celebrations will be an hour-long concert of jazz, song and poetry at the park bandstand on July 27th.
This show will include the world premiere of Enclave, by Irish composer Benjamin Dwyer. The work, which considers the park as "an area of repose within the chaotic city", will be performed by Vox 21 and broadcast by Lyric FM.
An exhibition, Through a Glass Darkly, will feature old and new photographs of St Stephen's Green. The events continue until July 30th.
