France has introduced a new telephone numbering plan, with effect from last night. Callers to France will now dial a nine digit number after 33, the international access code for France.

Callers to the north west of the country should add the number two, while callers to the south west should add the number five. Ia the north east, the number three should be added, and the number four should be used for the south east. In Paris and the Paris region, all numbers remain the same.
