A search is under way for four people following an attempted robbery in Co Westmeath.
The foiled burglary occurred at a private house in Stoneyford park, Delvin, at 3.30am. Three men and a woman were disturbed by the houseowner as they entered the property.
They fled the scene on foot following an attempt to start a vehicle at the property.
Gardaí later intercepted the four, and an altercation took place. The four attempted to hijack the Garda car and a garda was assaulted.
All four were wearing balaclavas and hoodies according to gardaí.
