FOUR MEMBERS of An Post staff have been suspended while an investigation into accounting irregularities at the company is completed.

An Post said it was examining the irregularities which were identified at the company's GPO headquarters on O'Connell Street in Dublin.

"Arising from inquiries to date, four employees have been suspended on full pay as a precaution in order to facilitate the completion of the internal investigation," the company said in a statement last night.

"We would hope to conclude the investigation as quickly as possible. The company will not be making any further comment on the matter at this time."

A Garda spokesman said gardaí are "aware of suspected irregularities at the GPO", but that no formal complaint had been received from An Post.
