Gardaí are treating the discovery of a man's body at a waste sorting facility near Listowel in Co Kerry on Friday afternoon as a "tragic accident".

The body of Declan Power (31), from Waterford, was discovered by workers after a dump truck brought rubbish to the South West Bins on Wheels Ltd facility outside the town at about 4.00pm.

It is understood the body had been emptied into the lorry when refuse staff collected a skip or industrial-sized wheelie bins earlier in the day.

Gardaí said they are treating death as an accident following the results of a postmortem at Tralee General Hospital yesterday.
