The body of Ray Moore (52), a former republican prisoner in Northern Ireland who had been sleeping rough in the area, was discovered in the house on Griffith Street, just off Dublingate Street, at about 4am.

It is understood he may have been dead for several days.

State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy carried out a postmortem today at Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar.

Gardaí said there was nothing suspicious about his death.
