Liverpool - A former England rugby union star, Tony Neary, was jailed for five years yesterday after he admitted stealing trust funds set up by a man he once regarded as a mentor. He admitted 12 charges of theft totalling more than £288,000. Two further counts of fraud totalling £450,000, denied by the former England captain, were allowed to remain on the file.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that the charges related to two trust funds set up by the late Manchester lawyer Mr John Gorna. --(PA)
