A former St Patrick's Athletic and Republic of Ireland footballer was yesterday committed for trial at Liverpool Crown Court on a drugs charge. Mr Derek Dunne (28), of Alfie Byrne House, Dublin, was remanded in custody. He had been arrested at Manchester Airport on January 5th.

The prosecution alleges that he conspired with others to export heroin to the Republic between July 1st, 1994, and March 31st, 1995.
