A RIFLE, masks and other unspecified items have been recovered by the RUC and the British army in the south Armagh countryside following an extensive search over two days.

The search was launched after an incident near the village of Cullyhanna on Monday. Police said the security forces fired shots and arrested four men after observing suspicious activities.

Investigations into the incident are continuing and a number of men are still being held for questioning at Gough Barracks in Armagh.
