SAMO DOMINGO - At least eight people have died in the Dominican Republic because of floodwaters unleashed by Hurricane Hortense, the president of the nation's senate said.

Mr Amable Aristy Castro, said he was informed that several rivers had overflowed their banks, killing at least eight people.
