The Minister of State for Tourism, Mr Chris Flood, appealed to fellow EU tourism ministers to back Ireland's campaign for the retention of duty-free facilities after July 1999.

Mr Flood told a Tourism Council meeting that the business now generated $13 billion (£8.66 billion) worldwide sales, half of that in the EU. Up to 140,00 jobs could be affected in the EU, he said.
