Gardaí are continuing to question five people in connection with a double murder in Dublin’s north inner city last week.

Michael “Roly” Cronin (35), from Ballymun, and James Moloney (26) from Dublin’s south inner city were shot in a car in Summerhill on Wednesday, January 7th.

Mr Cronin, a convicted heroin dealer, died in the Mater hospital less than an hour after the gun attack, while Mr Maloney died in St James's Hospital two days later.

Both victims had gone to meet a criminal associate when the attack took place.

They were sitting in the front seats of a black Volvo S40 sports car on Langrishe Place, off Summerhill, when a man in the back of the vehicle opened fire.

Three women in their 30s and two men in their 30s and 40s were arrested yesterday morning in the north inner city.

They are being detained at Bridewell, Coolock, Store Street and Mountjoy Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act and can be held for up to 72 hours.
