Five French soldiers were killed after a suicide attack in Afghanistan today, and four others were seriously wounded, president Nicolas Sarkozy's office said in a statement.
"The French soldiers were protecting a council meeting in the Tagab valley," the Elysée said. "A terrorist set off a bomb close to the soldiers wounding four other French soldiers seriously and three Afghan civilians."
The statement said one Afghan civilian was also killed in the attack.
