Gardaí in Athlone arrested five men this morning at an official halting site in the town.
The arrests at the site on Blackberry Lane were the result of an ongoing investigation in the area into a feud between Travellers.
A large number of implements were seized, including iron bars, hammers, hatchets and pick axe handles, a Garda statement said.
The five men, ranging in age from the late teens to the mid-30s, are being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Athlone Garda station.
