A Medical Council fitness to practise inquiry will issue its findings later in writing after a Dublin GP admitted to five allegations of poor professional performance when he over-prescribed tranquilisers for patients with anxiety and insomnia, writes FIONA GARTLAND.

A hearing yesterday heard Dr Mohammed Ahmed Khan, of Wicklow Street, Dublin, prescribed benzodiazepines, such as valium, for four patients over extended periods and up to five times the recommended dose.
