Fishermen airlifted off Connemara coast

Two fishermen were airlifted off the Galway coast last night when their boat ran aground in fog near Rossavil.

Two fishermen were airlifted off the Galway coast last night when their boat ran aground in fog near Rossavil.

The vessel, a 36-foot fishing boat, ran aground near Lough Carrig Island at the mouth of Rossavil Harbour.

Two RNLI lifeboats and a coastguard helicopter from Shannon were tasked to aid the stricken vessel. The two fishermen were airlifted by the helicopter and taken to Shannon.

The men were unharmed in the incident.
