Fire destroys part of pig factory

A large number of pigs died in a fire at a piggery in Co Waterford this morning.

Gardai in Tramore are investigating the fire at the factory in Fenor at bout 7.45am.

The fire caused significant damage to part of the factory and a large number of pigs were killed. Others had to be destroyed by vets for humane reasons. Nobody was injured in the incident, gardai said.

The cause of the fire is unknown and the scene has being preserved for a technical examination.
