Fine Gael has selected Fingal County Councillor Eithne Loftus to represent the party in the forthcoming Dublin West byelection.
The byelection is being held to fill the Dáil vacancy created by the death of Brian Lenihan earlier this year. Ms Loftus was selected party at a convention held in Castleknock last night.
She was co-opted onto Fingal County Council in 2007, filling the seat formerly held by Leo Varadkar. She stood for election to the council in 2009 and was elected with more than 3,000 first preference votes.
