The Progressive Democrats have claimed the award of an Irish tourism advertising campaign to an English film company raises serious questions about the ability of Irish firms to offer competitive prices when faced with international pitches for business.

The party's spokesman for tourism, Mr Bobby Molloy, said the case highlighted the consequences of the Government's "high taxation policies" on the competitiveness of Irish companies.

However, a SIPTU spokesman has repeated his claim that no Irish film company was asked to tender for the campaign, which starts shooting in Ireland next week.
