A Garda inquiry into the death of a prisoner who died of a heroin overdose at Cork Prison in September 2008 is nearing completion, with a file to be sent to the DPP within weeks.

Raymond Tanner (35), Casement Street, Clonakilty, Co Cork, was found dead in cell B3 at Cork Prison on September 25th, 2008.

A postmortem examination carried out by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster attributed Mr Tanner’s death to “heroin toxicity”.

Coroner Dr Myra Cullinane adjourned the inquest until January 14th, 2010.
