Two men arrested yesterday in connection with a stabbing in Athlone in the early hours of Saturday have been released without charge

A file is being prepared and will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A Dublin man was stabbed in the neck in the town yesterday morning at approximately 5 a.m. He remains in a serious but stable condition at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

The in his 40s, was injured when a row broke out outside a pub in the town centre.

Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses to the incident to contact them.
