Suva - Fiji moved a step closer to ending its hostage crisis yesterday when the coup leader Mr George Speight agreed with the military on who should be the next president.

Mr Speight, who stormed parliament on May 19th with a band of indigenous Fijian gunmen and took the country's first ethnic Indian prime minister and 30 other people hostage, also said he would accept ethnic Indians in a future government.
