Dhaka - Bangladeshi troops, police, civil engineers and volunteers joined forces to try to save a vital embankment threatening to collapse under surging flood waters which would inundate tens of thousands of Dhaka homes.
The emergency operation was stepped up as monitors reported that the flooding, which has already killed at least 823 people, was worsening around the country.
