More than 50 people were evacuated from their homes and more told to keep doors and windows shut because of concerns about dangerous chemicals when fire broke out in a factory in Antrim today.

At its height, the blaze at the Camden Group’s glazing factory on an industrial estate at Greystone Road in the town could be seen from nearly 20 kilometres away.

Firefighters with 13 appliances fought the fire for several hours before bringing it under control.

The fire  demolished much of the factory.

A detailed examination of the scene to establish the cause of the fire will be carried out tomorrow.
