Proposed changes in health insurance cover for psychiatric patients have been criticised by a Fianna Fail spokeswoman, Ms Maire Geoghegan Quinn. She is to ask the Dail to annul the regulation concerned.

The regulations under section of the Health Insurance Act, 1994, would reduce insurance cover from a maximum of 180 days per year to 100 days per year.

"They constitute a serious discrimination against the psychiatrically ill as other patients are not singled out for such a limit," she said.

regulations were laid before the Oireachtas on March 28th last. They can be annulled by the Dail or Seanad within 21 sitting days of that date.
