Speaking to ireland.comthis afternoon, a garda spokeswoman that there had been no major incidents in the capital.

She said there was only a slight increase of reported incidents compared to a normal Friday night.

About 1,000 gardaí were on duty in the Dublin Metropolitan Area.  By 10pm yesterday there had been about 45 arrests for minor offences.

Off-licences in the city centre generally respected Garda requests not to open before 4pm.
