A 36-year-old female Italian tourist has died following a collision between a car and a truck on the Tralee to west Kerry main tourist route yesterday afternoon

The head-on-collision occurred near Keane's pub at Curaheen on the N86 shortly after 2.30pm.

She was in a car with another Italian, a man, and they were heading west when the collision with the truck driving towards Tralee occurred.

The woman was a front seat passenger in the car. She was taken to Kerry General Hospital in Tralee with serious injuries. She died late yesterday evening. The driver of the car, a 31 year old man, is also in the hospital. His injuries are non life-threatening.

The name of the dead woman has not yet been released.
