A female special constable has been murdered in the street outside her home, police in London said today.

Nisha Patel-Nasri, 29, was stabbed to death late last night close to her home in a suburban part of Wembley, north west London.

She had been at home alone but went outside, apparently to investigate a "disturbance". Neighbours heard Mrs Patel-Nasri scream out. She was found on the street in her nightclothes.

A male in a hooded top was seen running from the scene.

London Ambulance Service attended, she was given first aid and then taken to Northwick Park Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

It emerged today that Mrs Patel-Nasri had disturbed an attempted burglary just a few days ago.
