An elderly female pedestrian has died after she was struck by a car while crossing a road in Little Island, Co Cork early this morning.

Gardaí this afternoon named the 80-year-old as Annie Deasy of Galley Head, Clonakilty, Co Cork.

The incident happened at Owenahincha, Rosscarbery, at 12.30am. The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was not injured.

The crash site was was examined by Garda forensic collision investigators.
