LOS ANGELES The FBI said yesterday it had launched an investigation into the video taped beating of two suspected illegal immigrants by sheriffs deputies. The beatings took place on Monday in suburban South El Monte 10 miles east of Los Angeles after a high speed chase.
The beatings provoked outrage in southern California's Mexican American community and immigrant leaders condemned the police action at a demonstration yesterday in downtown Los Angeles.
